clopidogrel & ticagrelor

Continue for procedures with low surgical bleeding risk.

Withhold for 7 days preoperatively in procedures with moderate to high bleeding risk and/or neuraxial anaesthesia is planned.

• Ideally elective surgery should be delayed until completion of course of clopidogrel / ticagrelor (especially for coronary stents).

• This decidion should be made in consultation with a cardiologist.

• If rapid reversal is required or emergency surgery, pre or intra-operative transfusion of platelets may reverse agent effects. If required, consult haematology.
