Prophylaxis is unecessary for cholecystectomy in younger patients without stones or obstruction.

Risk factors include: age >65 years, acute cholecystitis, obstructive jaundice, previous biliary tract surgery, stones in the common duct, emergency procedure.

Cefazolin 2g IV

Administer over 5 minutes.
