Prophylaxis is unecessary for cholecystectomy in younger patients without risk factors.

Risk factors include: age >65 years, acute cholecystitis, obstructive jaundice, previous biliary tract surgery, stones in the common duct, emergency procedure.

Gentamicin 2mg/kg IV

Dosed on LBW

Administer over 20-30 minutes
